As the Founder and CEO of Camo Canopy Consulting LLC, Tommy leverages a distinguished background in military and diversity recruitment to help organizations enhance their military-related initiatives, from hiring and retention strategies to fostering inclusive cultures and developing Veteran-owned businesses.
Throughout his career, Tommy has held pivotal roles at industry giants like Walmart and Verizon, where he led comprehensive talent acquisition strategies that employed over 15,000 veterans and military spouses. His strategic vision and commitment to excellence earned him recognition as a top Military Friendly Employer, along with several accolades including the ESGR awards, Vets Index 5 Star Employer, and the US DOL GOLD HireVets Medallion Award.
At Walmart, Tommy served as the Senior Director of Talent Acquisition - Military Programs, where he developed enterprise-wide strategies to attract, retain, and grow military talent. He collaborated with the Walmart Foundation to align corporate programs with philanthropic efforts, supported military spouses through tailored hiring policies, and led initiatives that increased the representation of military talent across the organization. His efforts included implementing data-driven tools within Workday ATS to improve self-identification and prioritization of military-connected talent.
In his role at Verizon, Tommy established and led the military recruitment team from scratch, building high-performing teams and optimizing recruitment processes to streamline operations and enhance candidate experiences. As the Head of Military Programs & Diversity Recruiting Operations, he oversaw all military-related functions, from marketing and advertising to working with foundations, nonprofits, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. His leadership was instrumental in positioning Verizon as a top employer for military and diverse talent, consistently earning top rankings as a Military Friendly Company.
A decorated veteran with over 20 years of service in the United States Army, Tommy brings a unique perspective to his work, informed by his experiences managing people and technology solutions in some of the most challenging environments. His commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion and his ability to build strong partnerships with military organizations, veteran support groups, and government agencies set him apart as a leader in the military and veterans affairs space.
Tommy holds multiple certifications from Villanova University, including Advanced BI Data Certification, Project Management Certification, and Human Resources Certification, along with the SHRM Foundation's Veterans at Work Certificate. He has been recognized as one of the 2023 Veteran Champions of the Year in Corporate America and is actively involved in multiple military initiatives, serving on advisory boards for organizations such as the SHRM Board of Military Advisors and the JP Morgan Veterans Jobs Mission Advisory Board.
